Battalion camp continues

NORTH BAY, Ont. — The battle for roster spots continued Tuesday, the third day of the North Bay Battalion’s Ontario Hockey League training camp.

“I’m excited about our camp,” Stan Butler, director of hockey operations and head coach, said earlier of the mixture of veterans and prospects.

“I like our returning players. I think we have a good group coming back, to be honest, which makes it good, but I think we do have some competition, especially on the back end and up front.”

Camp attendees played two instraquad games consisting of three 25-minute periods, with a fourth and final clash set for 9 a.m. Wednesday, after which the roster will be pared for the preseason.

The Team Green and Team White benches were run by Adam Dennis and Scott Wray, Battalion assistant coaches, respectively, while Butler observed from the Memorial Gardens stands. After a lopsided result Monday, eight players changed sides to produce more even games.

Like the others, the final game is open to the public at no charge.

After camp breaks, the Battalion heads to a Preseason Showcase at Kitchener. The team will play three games in as many days starting Friday.

White goals: Moncada, Porter, Baker, Chenier.
