CKAT to provide radio coverage
NORTH BAY, Ont. – The North Bay Battalion and Country 600 CKAT announced Tuesday that they have reached agreement for the station to be the official play-by-play live radio broadcast outlet for all the Ontario Hockey League club’s regular-season and playoff games.
The Battalion, which relocated to North Bay from Brampton for the 2013-14 season, opens the regular schedule on Friday, Sept. 20, against the Kingston Frontenacs in the first of nine consecutive road games before hosting the Peterborough Petes at the renovated Memorial Gardens on Friday, Oct. 11.
“When the City of North Bay and Battalion announced the OHL was returning to North Bay, we knew that Country 600 CKAT, as North Bay’s Sports Leader, would be a perfect fit with the Battalion,” said Holly Cangiano, CKAT general manager. “We’re excited about the OHL being back in North Bay and are proud to broadcast and stream online the biggest game in town.”
Veteran announcer Bob Coles will call the play-by-play, while sports editor Matthew Sookram will provide other scores and updates around the OHL and elsewhere. On home ice, the broadcast duo will deliver all the action live from the new media centre at Memorial Gardens. Each broadcast will start with a half-hour pregame show including features, interviews, updates and the latest breaking news.
“CKAT has been a great supporter of the Battalion since we arrived in North Bay, and we’re looking forward to a great partnership,” said Phil Ercolani, Battalion senior manager of marketing, sales and communications.
Battalion owner Scott Abbott said he was pleased with the agreement.
“Apart from CKAT having covered our playoff games last season, this is the first radio agreement we’ve had. In 15 years in Brampton, we never enjoyed anything like this. I know Bob and Matthew will do an outstanding job for our fans.”
All Battalion games will be heard on radio, online at www.country600.com and globally with the Country 600 CKAT mobile app. CKAT’s multi-platform approach connects sports fans to their favourite team and athletes while also delivering local, regional, national and global news, sports and information.
