Prospect trio enlists with Troops
NORTH BAY, Ont. – The North Bay Battalion announced Thursday that the club has received commitments from three prospects in advance of the 2017 OHL Pre-Season Showcase in Buffalo, NY.
A North Bay product, Vescio was the club’s fourth round (72nd overall) pick in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection from the North Bay Trappers Midgets. The 6-foot-1, 166Ib. right-hand defenceman recorded 26 points (6-20–26) over 36 games against older competition in the Great North Midget League. Vescio, who also represented Team NOHA in the 2017 OHL Cup and attended Hockey Canada’s National Under-17 Development Camp this past summer, is the son of former North Bay Centennials blueliner Kevin Vescio (1982-86) who was chosen by the New York Islanders in the 1983 NHL Draft.
A 6-foot-6, 212Ib. native of Caledon East, Ont., Mailhot was a fifth round (97th overall) pick of the Battalion in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection from the Toronto Red Wings Minor Midgets. The right-handed shot spent last season with the Toronto Patriots Jr. A club of the OJHL where he recorded two goals, three assists and five points over 35 contests.
A 6-foot-2, 165Ib. left-winger from Midland, Ont., Brown was North Bay’s seventh round (134th overall) pick in the 2016 OHL Priority Selection from the North Central Predators Minor Midgets. Brown spent last season playing for his hometown Midland Flyers Jr. C club, collecting 21 points (5-16–21) over 42 games as a 16-year-old. He added five points (2-3–5) over 10 playoff games.
